RESIDENTIAL RENOVATION
Spring Valley
This home in Spring Valley, Washington, DC was increased in size by almost 50%, and the plan was extensively updated. The added space was created without adding significantly to the building mass by adding subtly to the central core of the house, making formerly small rooms ample without creating large areas of new construction.
A new entry hall opens to a second-floor library, which incorporates the landing itself as part of the room. The interiors were enhanced with millwork, built-in casework, and trim details that matched the high level of the original finishes throughout the house.
The new portion of the house contains a dining room, mudroom, and kitchen on the first floor, and the master bedroom and bath on the second floor. A separate garage was built to help enclose the garden and create a quiet respite from the busy city just beyond the garden.
